I am writing this on behalf of me and my friends in the UK, who saw you wrestle several times over here in recent tours. I watched you rise to prominence on Tough Enough Season 3 (one of my favourite Seasons), and I can recall noticing at the time how, whilst other contestants were crumbling, becoming emotional wrecks and overly tense, you were always level headed, calm, cool and collected; more importantly, your commitment and passion was always present; I remember Al Snow's amazement at the fact you so were capable of executing a shooting star press from a STANDING position with such beauty and ease!
I followed your early career from your days as Eric Bischoff's assistant to the team of MNM; a team that reminded me of the many old school tag-teams of the golden eras of wrestling due to your cohesiveness and actual look of a tag-team.
I remember the first time I saw you live in person: it was MNM facing Hardcore Holly and Booker-T at the M.E.N. Arena's house show on the 2005 WWE Summer Bash Tour, and I said back then that you would go far.
I then watched as you became ECW Champion, transitioned to John Morrison, and then formed (in our collective opinions) one of the greatest tag-teams of all time in Miz & Morrison. We then watched a double Smackdown! taping in 2008, and though you weren't on the first show, you most definitely were on the second; I remember it clearly because you and the Miz walked onstage for a backstage skit with Jesse & Festus, and me and my friend both leapt to our feet roaring "YES!!!!" It was hilarious; the two mothers with their children seated infront of us nearly jumped out of their skins in shock!
I remember watching your career then blossom into a fantastic singles career on Raw, parallel to The Miz's rise on Raw, and in 2008/9, during your amazing feuds for the Intercontinental Championship, and your matches with the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy and many more (many of which were definitely MOTY candidates!). It was at this time I said to myself "This time next year, he will be the World Heavyweight Champion."
Unfortunately, it then happened. In its annual chaotic upheaval, all of the greatest talent (you included) were taken from Smackdown! and placed into the political and commercial-driven show of Raw, where the wrestling was no longer important, and the show was crammed and rushed. I remember dreading the move to Raw, but still you began to fight against the tide, and had fantastic matches in your tenure there; one of my personal favourites was your triple threat match with The Miz and Daniel Bryan for the U.S. title - yet another PPV Show stealer!
Then came your epic and long overdue feud with The Miz for the WWE title, which me and my friends thought would culminate in a title match at the Royal Rumble (we all said we would for once be looking forwards to a title match MORE than the Royal Rumble!) Unfortunately, once again, it was not to be; however, the match did take place on the first Raw of this year, and what a fantastic start to the year it was!
I can also clearly remember buying your "Rock Star" DVD - the first time I have EVER bought a WWE Superstar's DVD on the day of its release, and it was well worth the money! - Not only for the epic matches, but for the insight into your day-to-day life, training and personality (something which unfortunately is never offered on WWE programming).
I am going to my first ever Wrestlemania next year, yet it is bittersweet that one of my favourite wrestlers will not be there.
Too often WWE has squandered it's inept and conflicted creative decisions and booking on wrestlers who should have been future megastars, and they have let them slip through their fingers. Well it is their loss; I truly hope that the future brings you everything you wish for and that you will be happy no matter what you choose, whether it is wrestling or other pursuits - just make sure to keep us Jomosapien fans posted!
I admire your ability to perform moves which most wrestlers could never even think of, your dedication to your craft, and your ability to soldier on through the good and bad times you have faced in the WWE.
I hope you now have the free time to be happy, and pursue your external projects such as Out Of Your Mind Fitness - one of the projects I regularly check up on Twitter for any updates! I truly believe that, no matter which avenue you choose in this next crossroads of your life, with your determination and focus you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. After all, you inhabit the Palace of Wisdom! :D
Whether it is ROH, TNA, NWA, Acting, Fitness, or any other choice you choose, I am sure it will be the right one.
Good luck John, it is bittersweet to see you leave our T.V. screens for the time being, and though my group of friends were texting each other about "What a waste of a talented wrestler" the WWE had made, I reminded my friends of the many great matches, moments and memories you have given us throughout the years.
I hope you got time to read all of this letter, and I'll stop now before it evolves into a novel!
Just know that even if the WWE did not, WE appreciated your time, efforts and talents.
